What is Iridology?
Iridology is basically the process of looking in the Iris of our eyes to review the overall health of our body.
A magnifying glass and a pen light are the tools most commonly used. There are also special cameras that can take a picture of the iris.
A Certified Iridologist briefly and repeatedly looks in a person’s eye and pays attention to the overall body constitution, and reviews specific markations and colorations that may help determine if any health conflicts exist. The location of these signs help determine what parts of the body may be in conflict. Notations are made on paper, a map of the iris.
How is it possible to look in the iris and see what may be happening inside the body?
Similar to the more commonly known modality called reflexology, there are actual nerve endings that go to the iris of the eyes. In reflexology, nerve endings can be physically found in the hands and the feet.
For thousands of years, Chinese medical practitioners and healers have believed that the eyes are able to reflect various health conditions of the body. Then a few centuries ago some western doctors also took note of specific markations and colorations in the Iris in relevant tissue and organ locations, and started mapping these *clues* for potential health conflicts. Fast forward in time to the advancement of modern technology, and very detailed maps of the iris are now developed for the practitioners use and clients benefit.
Why is Iridology helpful?
Please note – Iridology CANNOT be used to make a health or disease diagnosis. It is not possible due to the foundation of Iridology.
Instead the benefits of Iridology are available for people who want to be more informed about any possible tissue and organ conflicts that may exist BEFORE they progress into physical symptoms. I’ll emphasize again that diagnosis can not be made (or is it desired) based on reviewing the iris. The iris is reflecting specific areas of the body that may not be functioning at an optimal level. That’s why Iridology is often considered a modality / a tool and part of a preventive approach to living the healthiest life possible.
With that said, Iridology is also beneficial to people who have been diagnosed with health conditions or are experiencing physical symptoms. Iridology’s preventive focus is to pay attention to specific parts of the body that may not be functioning at an optimal level, and healthier lifestyle changes may help promote healing. This healing approach differs from western medicine which often starts a disease diagnosis investigation based on physical symptoms.
For example, a patient may be experiencing pain and discomfort in their right shoulder and based on the symptoms the doctor may initially diagnose that it sounds like typical arthritis. Whereas if the doctor were shown the same person’s iris, she/he may see ballooning of the colon in the region of the right shoulder. The entire nervous system is connected to the colon, and different parts of the body are often affected by adverse conditions in the colon. Western medicine may prescribe pain medication for arthritis, whereas a holistic healing approach would focus on improving the health of the colon.
